Fox’s Brian Kilmeade Complains That Border Agents Are Separated From Their Families
The ‘border crisis’ was the main story on Fox & Friends again Wednesday morning and co-host Brian Kilmeade identified the real victims: border patrol agents and their families. Fox News consistently shows more sympathy for border agents than migrants desperately fleeing their countries, but Kilmeade’s remarks seemed particularly tone deaf.
The hosts were discussing congressional testimony given on Tuesday about the border.
“When you look at what is going on, it’s clear to both sides that it is a crisis,” co-host Steve Doocy said. “It is a political season. We’re over a year away from a big election. And while the Democrats focus on one part of the immigration problem – humanitarian, port safety, things like that. The Republicans are focusing more on security.”
“They’re putting politics ahead of people,” Ainsley Earhardt said, presumably referring to Democrats and their humanitarian concerns.
“I think Republicans are what you just said. It’s part of it. This is called a negotiation,” Kilmeade said. “They also need the humanitarian aspect. Also, the low morale among border agents was a major theme yesterday. Think about going to your job and now your job is 10 times harder every single day and overtime is demanded. You’re not seeing your family. You feel like you’re getting nowhere and you think that Washington is ignoring you.”
“Now you are a National Guards person and you’ve been away from your family in another state,” Kilmeade added.
Kilmeade and his co-hosts completely failed to mention family separations at the border where migrant families are forcibly detained apart from each other. The policy has been called cruel and unnecessary, and several accounts show that it has caused psychological damage to parents and children.
Fox & Friends recently hosted an advocate for family separation who was not challenged when he casually suggested more of it would be better.
