White House Communications Chief Bill Shine Resigns, Joins Trump Campaign
White House Deputy Chief of Staff of Communications Bill Shine has resigned and will be joining President Trump 2020 re-election campaign, according to White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Shine was the sixth person and seventh communications director for Trump, following Jason Miller, Sean Spicer, Bill Dubke, Spicer again, Anthony Scaramucci and Hope Hicks.
Shine’s resignation comes in the wake of Jane Mayer’s blockbuster story in The New Yorker, which raised questions about the Trump administration’s closeness to Fox News, where Shine worked for two decades prior to moving over to the White House.
His tenure at Fox News had ended amid questions about his role in enabling a company-wide culture of sexual harassment, especially among top executives including Fox’s founder and longtime president Roger Ailes.
The White House did not specify what role Shine will take with Trump’s re-election campaign. However, the Trump 2020 campaign released a statement welcoming Shine to the campaign as a senior adviser.
“Bill Shine is an incredible professional and will bring insight and talent as we build a world-class campaign,” campaign manager Brad Parscale wrote. “He is a gifted communicator, strategic thinker and brings a wealth of experience from cable news and the White House. The President’s re-election effort just got stronger.”
