Trump: If I Talked The Way Bob Woodward Claims, I Wouldn’t Be President
President Donald Trump has attacked veteran journalist Bob Woodward’s new book again today, tweeting that the contents of the book are untrue and that he never said quotes attributed to him.
“The Woodward book is a scam. I don’t talk the way I am quoted. If I did I would not have been elected President. These quotes were made up. The author uses every trick in the book to demean and belittle. I wish the people could see the real facts – and our country is doing GREAT!” Trump tweeted.
In Woodward’s book, Fear: Trump in the White House, the veteran journalist sites sources that claim Trump called Jeff Sessions ‘retarded’. Trump claimed he had never used that word to describe anyone but tape later surfaced of him calling someone ‘mentally retarded’ in 2004.
The President was also widely criticized for statements during the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump called Mexican immigrants rapists and mocked a disabled reporter during a rally, before denying that his gestures had anything to do with the journalist’s disability.
Trump and his White House team have tried to do damage control since excerpts of the book were released but Woodward’s portrait of Trump’s erratic behavior, combined with the recent op-ed from a White House insider, have raised serious concerns about the President’s fitness for office.
