Ronna McDaniel on Voter Registration: ‘The Biden Operation Has Not Been Existent’
Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel claimed on Monday that former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign operation to register voters has been non-existent. She spoke to Fox & Friends about a drop off in Democratic voter registrations.
As Politico pointed out over the weekend, Republican voter registrations have outpace Democrats as the pandemic has worn on, though this could be linked to conservative perceptions of the Coronavirus, which President Donald Trump has downplayed. The virus has seen major reductions in in-person registration.
McDaniel took a victory lap on the issue while speaking to Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade.
“It’s not a surprise to me, Brian,” she said. “Because we’ve been building up our ground game for the past year. We have had people in all of these battle ground states. We have the highest staff that we have ever had and we have activated over a million volunteers. And the Biden operation has not been existent.”
“So the second the pandemic hit, we went completely virtual. We haven’t lost a step and we’ve continued to do voter reg. And we have registered more voters already than we did in the entire 2016 cycle.”
Despite McDaniel’s claims, the GOP has reason to worry about voter registration. Democrats have been performing much better in this area over the past few months and expect another uptick before the election in November. The pandemic has reduced registrations across the board.
