Dr. Fauci: Coronavirus May Have Mutated and Become More Infectious
Dr. Anthony Fauci has sounded the alarm about Coronavirus becoming even more infectious as a result of mutation. The nation’s top infectious diseases expert issued the warning as Covid-19 cases continue to rise and the death toll reaches 130,000.
“The data is showing there’s a single mutation that makes the virus be able to replicate better and maybe have high viral loads,” Fauci said.
“We don’t have a connection to whether an individual does worse with this or not; it just seems that the virus replicates better and may be more transmissible.”
Fauci spoke to the Journal of the American Medical Association’s Dr. Howard Bauchner in a video now posted to YouTube. Fauci’s warning will come as unwelcome news to the entire country, but especially to states where the most serious phase of the virus is just beginning.
The warning comes as Fauci and his colleague Dr. Deborah Birx have come under sustained criticism. On Thursday, Republican Congressman Andy Biggs suggested that the medical experts were causing ‘panic and hysteria’, while Republican Senator Rand Paul has urged people not to listen to experts.
