Watch: Fox’s Steve Doocy Tries to Convince RNC Chair to Get Trump to Wear a Mask
Fox News’ Steve Doocy tried his best on Tuesday to convince Ronna McDaniel, chair of the Republican National Committee, to get President Donald Trump to wear a mask. In an extraordinary exchange, the Fox & Friends host explained his reasoning to the senior Republican.
“One of the things I’m hearing from my friends in New Jersey and New York where I’m sitting where we have to wear a mask all the time is people are saying, I wish the President would put on a mask every once in a while just because it would make him look as if he is taking it seriously and is listening to the CDC,” Doocy said.
“Because they’ve made it very clear and I know he is tested all the time. But the masks work.”
McDaniel gave a long and somewhat rambling answer, bringing up PPE, ventilators and stopping travel from China but Doocy persisted with his suggestion that Trump should wear a mask as an example to the country.
“I understand that. More states every day are mandating people, their citizens to wear masks and I think that if the President wore one, it would just set a good example,” Doocy said. “He would be a good role model. I don’t see any downside to the President wearing a mask in public.”
McDaniel gave another long answer that largely avoided the mask issue, but Doocy returned to the topic for a third time.
“I think by wearing masks can you keep the economy open and closing things are the last thing anybody wants to do. MAGA should now stand for masks are great again. Let me give you some marketing advice right there,” Doocy said.
“OK, I’ll take that under consideration,” McDaniel said.
