Fox News Guest: Chief Justice Roberts Is ‘Complicit’ in SCOTUS ‘Being Used as a Partisan Tool’
A Fox News guest attacked U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts on Friday following the court’s decision saying the Trump administration could not abolish the Delayed Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The vote was 5 to 4, with Roberts siding with the liberals.
Judicial Crisis Network’s Carrie Severino said Roberts, who was appointed by Republican President George W. Bush, told Fox & Friends’ Ainsley Earhardt that the court was now a political tool. Earhardt asked Severino for her reaction to the ruling.
“Real discouragement but unfortunately not surprise because what we are starting to see is a pattern of the Chief Justice, unfortunately, just being complicit and the court being used as a partisan tool to try to delay and undermine this president’s administration in their actions,” Severino said.
“This case couldn’t have been easier. We’ve got DACA, which is illegal, the President said we’re not going to continue a policy that’s already illegal and by the way, Chief Justice himself basically agreed that a very similar program was illegal, the DAPA program.”
“So it’s shocking to me to think he is allowing a program he himself must know does not — the government doesn’t have the authority to do by executive order to continue simply by creating unnecessarily procedural burdens here for the government, making them jump through hoops that the Obama Administration never jumps through when it created the program in the first place.”
The Judicial Crisis Network is a right-wing organization that has donated to conservative groups, lobbies for the appointment of conservative judges and has received money from Koch-founded groups.
