Joe Scarborough: Trump Seems ‘Panicked’ About ‘Losing Support Among Senior Citizens’
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough thinks President Donald Trump may be losing his grip as a result of the Coronavirus crisis. The Morning Joe host said on Thursday that from what he’d seen of Trump’s recent press briefing, the President had been reading his bad poll numbers with senior citizens.
“Yes, yes, Donald Trump, your people maybe they’re not watching Morning Joe and getting a different point of view, but they’re talking to their doctors,” co-host Mika Brzezinski said.
“They’re looking around them. They’re reading about this because they’re scared. And everywhere they look refutes what you say. That’s a very difficult position for a president trying to navigate politically, when he should be navigating scientifically and working on saving American lives, which he is not doing.”
“I gotta say, yesterday, Willie [Geist], from the highlights I saw after listening to the [Rolling] Stones, he seemed more panicked,” Scarborough said.
“It’s like he’s completely losing control. I mean, I know he’s seen all the numbers. We’re gonna get to the numbers from the states. You know, losing, really losing support among senior citizens. Really losing support in Michigan. Really losing support in Wisconsin. Really losing support in Pennsylvania. Losing support in Florida. Losing support in these swing states.”
“But again, I said it yesterday, I said it the day before, we’ve been saying it for weeks, I don’t understand why he has not understood that senior citizens are not going to buy the snake oil,” Scarborough said.
He explained that senior citizens will believe their doctors about the virus instead of the President and this will create more mistrust.
“One thing he can do, we know, is read a poll,” co-host Willie Geist. “He’s reading polls, and we’ll talk about them, that show in battleground states, he’s sliding because he’s losing support among the people you’re talking about. Among Baby Boomers.”
