Dr. Fauci Receives Increased Security Following Death Threats
Dr. Anthony Fauci has been given increased security following threats against his life. Fauci is the leading expert in the nation’s fight against the Covid-19 global pandemic but he has reportedly become the target of death threats, requiring more safety measrues.
The Department of Health and Human Services asked the U.S. Marshals Service for assistance following the threats and the Marshals have deputized some HHS staff to act as Fauci’s personal security. Officers of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department are also at this home around the clock.
Fauci was asked about threats made against him and Dr. Deborah Birx on Wednesday but demurred on the issue, telling reporters they should instead ask the Inspector General of HHS.
President Donald Trump jumped in and claimed that Fauci doesn’t need protection, almost joking about it.
“[He] doesn’t need security, everybody loves them,” Trump said of Birx and Fauci. “Besides that, they’d be in big trouble if they ever attacked.”
Fauci has become the target of right-wing conspiracy theories and conservative criticism over the course of the Coronavirus outbreak. Reports have reliably suggested that the President was growing ‘tired’ of Fauci because of his candor in media interviews.
