Rudy Giuliani Praises Trump and Cuomo for ‘Superb and Bipartisan’ Leadership
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has praised both President Donald Trump and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for their response to the Covid-19 global pandemic. Giuliani, who was most recently embroiled in the Ukraine impeachment scandal, appeared to see no conflict in lauding both men, who have been at odds with each other during the crisis.
Giuliani spoke to the Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo on Wednesday. She asked if it was really possible to re-open the economy by Easter.
“Well, first of all, I think that that both the President and Governor Cuomo have been the stars in handling this,” Giuliani said.
“I think their leadership has been superb, and bipartisan, and look, I don’t see the other governors as much, I’m sure they’re doing a good job also but I think Governor Cuomo, I’m really impressed, with the way he’s handled this and I’m very impressed with the way the President has handled it.”
Giuliani then returned to more conventional praise of President Trump, reiterating the claim that Trump’s travel restrictions on China saved thousands of lives. This has not been substantiated in any clear way.
“I’m very impressed also how both of them have gotten on top of something they knew nothing about four months ago,” Giuliani said. “I think we could be very confident in our leadership.”
Trump has in fact publicly attacked and criticized Cuomo’s response to the outbreak, while on Tuesday Cuomo called on the federal government to do more and tacitly condemned the administration’s apparent plan to place economic well-being ahead of containing the virus.
