Former U.S. Attorney on American Citizens: ‘We Are the Victims’ of Trump’s ‘Extortion Scheme’
A former U.S. attorney has told MSNBC’s Morning Joe that the victims of President Trump’s attempts to extort Ukraine are U.S. citizens. Chuck Rosenberg agreed with MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski on Thursday that people needed to understand who Trump had actually hurt.
“So Chuck Rosenberg, I think it was a strong day for the explanation as to why this entire scandal is a threat to our democracy. Do you agree?” Brzezinski said.
“I do. As you mentioned earlier, it’s ongoing. It’s happening now, so we need to do something about it,” Rosenberg said.
“And who the victim is” Brzezinski said. “Because I think there’s confusion, especially for people who are working and worried about, you know, tomorrow and getting their paycheck. There’s confusion when you hear all this noise about who the victim is in this, what exactly the President did when he shook down a foreign leader for dirt on his political rival. The victim is the United States of America.”
“We were the victims of Russian interference in the 2016 election,” Rosenberg agreed.
“We would be the victims again in 2020 of interference by any foreign power. But absolutely you’re right, Mika, we are the victims of this extortion scheme because it was designed to introduce foreign influence into our elections.”
