‘Women For Trump’ Official Compares The President To Mother Theresa
A campaigner for President Donald Trump in Iowa has compared him to Mother Theresa. Tana Goertz, who is on the advisory board of the Women for Trump Coalition, told CBS News that the President had done more for women than anyone except perhaps the Catholic saint.
“There’s not a person alive that literally has done so much for a female, for the female population,” Goertz said. “I can’t think of one person that I could go, except for Mother Teresa. I mean, literally, who has done more for women in office than Donald Trump?”
Goertz was a contestant on season three of The Apprentice.
Goertz is coordinating Trump’s re-election efforts in Iowa while also working on his outreach to women voters. The President is currently underwater with women in recent polls as his approval rating continues to decline. He lost the female vote in 2016.
This is not the first time this week that a Trump supporter has made a flattering, religiously-tinged comparison. Trump re-tweeted a conspiracy theorist who referred to him as ‘King of Israel’ and the ‘second coming of God’. Trump also called himself ‘the Chosen One.’
Mother Theresa is not uncontroversial, however. Though she has been made a saint by the Roman Catholic Church, critics have long pointed to the poor conditions in her ‘house for the dying’ and her virulent opposition to abortion. The case for her canonization was also fraught with controversy.
