Mike Huckabee Calls Bernie Sanders Voters ‘Darn Stupid’: They Have IQs in the ‘Single Digits’
Fox news contributor and class act Mike Huckabee has a message for anyone moved to vote for Bernie Sanders because of his plan to wipe out student debt: You are a stupid person with a single-digit I.Q.
And you wondered where his daughter, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, gets her charm.
Huckabee made the comments on Varney & Co. Monday in response to host Stuart Varney’s question about whether the former governor agrees the proposal is “vote-buying.”
The former Arkansas governor could have made the obvious point that if smearing a proposed policy desired by a group of people as “vote-buying,” then every political candidate in the history of representative democracy is guilty of it. Instead he said this:
“It’s the most blatant form of pandering I’ve ever seen. I’m saying P.T. Barnum for president because there is a sucker born every minute. There’s gotta be a lot of suckers to believe this nonsense. And here’s my question for Bernie: if you give away all the student loans, why just student loans? Why not home loans? A lot of people got a home loan on adjustable rate. Now it has gone up.”
Congratulations to Mike Huckabee for offering a great proposal to solve the financial crisis of 2009.
He continued:
“Good gosh, Stuart, where will this end? How stupid do they think American voters are? And if one of those people get elected, they’re darn stupid, that’s what it is.”
Why anyone would be stupid for voting for someone propsing to wipe out their student loan debt is not explained, because it is Fox Business and so Huckabee doesn’t have to explain himself.
After Varney wondered if Americans “buy this, or has this money for everybody for free, has it gone so far that it’s patently ridiculous?”
Huckabee responded:
“Well, if we have enough voters whose I.Q. Is in the single digits we’ve got a problem, Houston. But if there are people who just use the noodle between their ears for something other than to keep their skull from collapsing, then nobody’s gonna believe that a politician will go in and give them organic dinners and lunches for free, and provide for them a free home. And not just any home, let’s make it a nice home. I mean, by gosh, if you’re gonna give it away, let’s give some good stuff away.”
In Mike Huckabee’s mind, it is a slippery slope from student debt forgiveness to free organic food and a nice house in which to eat it, apparently.
If Huckabee cared to take a position beyond moralistic finger-wagging at students who took on loans to attend college, he could educate himself on the causes of the debt crisis and the drag it has created on the economy for several generations of borrowers as they struggle to build wealth after graduation. So while the jury may be out on how exactly to solve that crisis, there is no question it is a serious social and political issue that needs to be addressed.
But this is Fox Business, and serious discussion is not what Huckabee gets paid to do.
