Fox’s Brian Kilmeade: Cancelling Student Debt Would Be ‘Putting A Zero Value’ On College
Fox & Friends took aim at Senator Bernie Sanders’ plans to cancel student debt Monday morning. Sanders has long advocated ending student loan debt and his proposal would help around 45 million people. Unsurprisingly, the Fox News hosts were against this debt relief measure.
“In the meantime, later on today, Bernie Sanders, two days before the big debate down in Miami, is going to announce that he has a plan to eliminate $1.6 trillion in student debt,” co-host Steve Doocy said.
“It would impact 45 million Americans, essentially student debt from private and grad schools. It would make public universities, community colleges and trade schools tuition free an way he would pace for it would be a .5% tax on all Wall Street stocks exchanges. They sayit could raise $2 trillion over ten years and Bernie would like to take those $2 trillion dollars and wipe out student debt because across the board.”
“Redistribute funds,” Kilmeade said.
“Here we go, here’s what he says,” Kilmeade went on. “‘This is truly a revolutionary proposal: all Americans will get college education or job training they need, while having all student debt forgiven. We bailed out Wall Street in 2008. It’s time to tax Wall Street’s greed to help American people'”.
“Now, not everyone on Wall Street’s greedy, I hate to tell you, creating an enemy of people that earn money,” Kilmeade said. “I don’t think it is positive but letting people know that — putting a zero value on something so valuable, I think is a detrimental effect.”
“And when you are running for office, I have never seen a party give more stuff away,” Kilmeade said. “Free preschool, we’ll forgive debt, we’re gonna pay for college, I cannot believe — I mean, you are running against practical against a fantasy.”
Kilmeade’s logic is simple: if you don’t have to pay for something, then it isn’t valuable. He’s suggesting that student debt forgiveness will send the message that college education is worthless. It’s useful to note that Fox News has frequently attacked colleges as places of left-wing indoctrination.
