‘He Cheats Like a Mafia Accountant’: Rick Reilly Reveals How Trump Lies About His Golf Game
Discussing his new book, Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump, sportswriter Rick Reilly told CNN Tuesday morning that the president cheats at golf relentlessly and shamelessly, regardless whether people are watching or not. And that he does it all just to prove in the end that he’s better than you.
“He cheats like a mafia accountant,” Reilly told New Day anchor John Berman. “He cheats crazy. He cheats whether you’re watching or not. He cheats whether you like it or not.”
The veteran sports scribe went on to note that Trump’s claimed on the campaign trail to have “won” 18 club championships, revealing Trump was able to do that by just playing the first round after opening a golf course and declaring that the championship.
As for Trump’s so-called golf handicap of 2.8, which is currently better than gold legend Jack Nicklaus’, Reilly noted that Trump is cherrypicking his best scores to drive up his handicap, rather than inputting every round he plays.
In the end, Reilly said Trump’s constant cheating at golf reveals that he “has to win no matter what.”
“It’s not that he loves golf, he just loves beating you,” he declared. “So these guys always say he’s fun to play with, always wins but then he doesn’t even take your money. It’s not about beating you out of the ten bucks, it’s about showing you that he’s better than you.”
