CNN’s Stelter: Fox News Spent More Time Talking About Ocasio-Cortez’s Shoes Than Climate Report
On Black Friday, the Trump administration tried its best to bury a devastating government report on climate change by dumping it during a holiday weekend. And the president’s favorite news network dutifully did its part by barely mentioning the report that concludes climate change is already causing significant damage to the United States and the impact will only get worse in the future.
At the top of his media analysis show Reliable Sources on Sunday, CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter took Fox News to task for ignoring the long-awaited report, claiming that the network was engaging in climate change denialism while pointing out one of the topics the network decided to cover instead.
“Even though the report was originally supposed to couple out in December, it was moved up to Thanksgiving weekend,” Stelter noted. “Seemed like some funny business was going on. Still, most of the major networks covered the report in detail. It’s been a big story on cable news, except for Fox News. I want you to guess how many times Fox News mentioned that blockbuster report on Friday.”
He then played a clip of the one time Fox brought it up on Friday — during Dana Perino’s broadcast — while telling his audience to “let that sink in” that the network only gave 30 seconds of coverage to the report.
“Now, obviously, the report countered the president’s ridiculous claims about climate change,” the media analyst declared. “Fox decided to avoid all of that, though. The network actually spent more time talking about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s shoes on Friday. More time on her shoes than on the climate change report.”
That panel discussion on the progressive congresswoman’s foot attire was heavily mocked over the weekend, including by Ocasio-Cortez herself, who remarked on the conservative-leaning network’s obsession with her.
Stelter went on to say that Fox did give a little bit more coverage to the report on Saturday but it was completely ignored on Trump’s favorite talk shows. “Which I would argue is another form of denialism,” Stelter pointed out.
So besides Ocasio-Cortez’s shoes, what did Fox decide to cover instead of the climate report? They brought back the fearmongering over the migrant caravan.
“Yes, the caravan is back!” Stelter exclaimed.
