CNN’s David Gergen Heaps Praise On Trump For 9/11 Speech: ‘Very Thoughtful,’ ‘Easily One Of His Best’
On the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, President Donald Trump delivered a speech paying tribute to the victims while honoring the passengers of Flight 93 who charged the cockpit, preventing the hijackers from completing their attack on Washington.
“They boarded the plane as strangers, and they entered eternity linked forever as true heroes,” the president said from the crash site in Shanksville, PA. “They bravely charged the cockpit.”
He continued, “They attacked the enemy. They fought until the very end. And they stopped the forces of terror and defeated this wicked, horrible, evil plan.”
After Trump managed to somberly read the prepared speech from the teleprompter and not ad-lib or stray, CNN anchor Poppy Harlow and senior political analyst David Gergen heaped praise on the president for staying on script.
“Quite a tribute there to the American lives lost, murdered on 9/11, from the president speaking just now in Shanksville, Pennsylvania,” Harlow noted after Trump’s speech.
“Beautifully written,” Gergen responded after Harlow read off a portion of the president’s remarks. “Very thoughtful speech by the president. I think easily one of his best speeches.”
The veteran political adviser added, “For a moment, Poppy, one could almost forget the chaos around us, the acrimony, the poison, and come together. And you can only hope the president will navigate that course again, that he will understand that the kind of speech he gave today brings us back together. And helps in that regard. And that if he will take and lead the way, maybe we can find our way to a better place as a nation.”
Man, that sure is a lot to take away from a man lumbering through a prepared speech, especially when you consider this is what Trump was doing as he arrived at the site:

Meanwhile, some folks remarked that Trump being praised for delivering “one of his best speeches” today and that he might be able to “bring us back together” with moments like these shows that the bar continues to be lowered for this president.
The bar is so, so pitifully low.
He just attacked the DOJ in a number of tweets earlier today and he reads a speech on a teleprompter without pooping his diapey and this is the reaction. It's just pitiful punditry. https://t.co/L0HoGzC0k0

"For a moment one could almost forget the chaos around us, the acrimony, the poison and come together. You can only hope he can navigate that course again". Seriously? Because he managed to read a speech once? BS
