Seth Meyers: Watching Fox News Is Like Getting Election News From Your Mom’s Facebook Friends
Seth Meyers used his late night show yesterday to take Fox News to task for spreading conspiracy theories about Hillary Clinton’s health. Showing Fox presenters relying on social media and members of their own audience to provide information on Clinton’s health, Meyers mocked Fox News for not acting like serious news.
“If you’re watching Fox News for information about the upcoming election you might as well cut out the middleman and ask Mom what her Facebook friends are saying,” Meyers said. “‘You know, Linda says that Hillary has been a ghost for 10 years. I don’t know, it had 54 likes.'”
Meyers then pointed out that Fox News has been spreading claims that Clinton has a body double like the president in the comedy movie Dave. “That’s right. They’re comparing this election to the movie Dave, which is ridiculous,” Meyers said. “Dave is about a know-nothing businessman, who is accidentally thrust into the presidency, even though he’s completely unprepared — okay, maybe there are more similarities than I thought.”
Later in the segment, Meyers complained that Donald Trump’s claims that Clinton was out of touch didn’t quite stick while he lived in a golden house. “Hillary is an elitist, who lives a life of luxury, while Donald Trump is a regular, everyday, man of the people,” Meyers said. “As you can tell from the humble decor in his home in Trump Tower.” Meyers then played video of a walkthrough of Trump’s condo. “Lots and lots of gold,” Meyers remarked. “Donald Trump isn’t just the second-most-out-of-touch candidate, he’s the second-best Austin Powers villain.”
