Katy Tur Shuts Down GOP Rep Who Tells Her To ‘Control’ Herself: ‘I’m Perfectly In Control’
MSNBC host Katy Tur shut down a GOP congressman who attempted to characterize her as being overly excited and potentially out of control, letting him know she was “perfectly in control” after a bit of a tense back-and-forth.
Tur welcomed on Rep. Peter King (R-NY) Tuesday afternoon and the conversation centered on recent news that federal prosecutors had subpoenaed records from President Trump’s inauguration committee amid increased scrutiny over the committee’s finances. This new development reveals how far Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has spread from its initial focus on Russian election interference and possible ties to the Trump campaign.
King, who previously served on the House Intelligence Committee, brushed off Tur when she noted that a lot of people have pleaded guilty or been convicted already in association with the probe, telling her that the probe has revealed “absolutely nothing” about collusion. “That’s the story none of your commentators talk about,” he added.
The MSNBC host asked the New York lawmaker if he actually expected any of the information to come out before the investigation is done, causing King to say “anything is possible” before once again suggesting that it was one big nothingburger. “I don’t want to prejudge,” he remarked.
“It sounds like you are prejudging,” Tur retorted. “It sounds like you’ve decided you’re not going to believe anything that comes out of this investigation. You just implied that [Michael] Cohen and [Rick] Gates are liars and trying to cooperate.”
King responded by saying he wasn’t prejudging like critics of the president before taking shots at the media, saying that whenever they hear about an investigation they “presume someone is guilty” unless it is “someone who was on the left wing.”
“I think you’re mischaracterizing any presumption that’s being made here,” a clearly unamused Tur replied. “We’re reporting facts of the investigation.”
Despite Tur calmly pushing back against King, the Republican congressman acted as if the host had torn him a new one, asking why she was “so excited over this” while reiterating that “nothing’s come out” of the investigation.
“It’s another investigation, add to the many investigations into the president, and he’s the President of the United States, which warrants — I’m not going to argue about our news coverage because it warrants news coverage,” Tur sternly stated as King attempted to interrupt her. “He’s the President of the United States. I want to talk about tonight.”
As she was looking to move the discussion to Tuesday evening’s State of the Union, King kept jabbing at her, telling Tur to “control your excitement a bit.”
“I’m perfectly in control, Congressman,” she asserted, all while King said he was unsure she was.
