Laura Ingraham continued her alarmist rhetoric on immigration last night in a brief segment that seems to be pitched at Republican midterm voters. The Fox News personality told her viewers that immigration reform was part of the Democrats’ plan to create a new voting base in the United States.
Ingraham warned that if Democrats win Congress, they will embrace ‘open borders’. There is no suggestion that the Democrats would open the borders. However, Ingraham showed clips from Senator Elizabeth Warren and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez talking about ICE to re-enforce her point. It is true that both women have said they want to abolish or reform ICE, which is the body in charge of dealing with immigration.
“Safe passage. Everybody come on in!” Ingraham said, mockingly. “The choice could not be clearer for the midterm voters. There’s so much on the line for America. Will Trump get the funding for his wall? Will the mass migration from other poor countries in Central America be stopped at all, ever?”
“Will travesties such as birthright citizenship finally be ended?” Ingraham asked. Birthright citizenship has recently become a right-wing target, though there is little evidence that it is a pull factor for immigrants. Ingraham then suggested punishing businesses that keep wages low by hiring undocumented migrants. There is no evidence that immigration lowers wages.
“Your views on immigration will have zero impact and zero influence on a House dominated by Democrats who want to replace you, the American voters, with newly amnestied citizens and an ever increasing number of chain migrants,” Ingraham said, speaking directly to her viewers.
“If Republicans choose to unite, however, behind the President’s immigration policy, the way they just did in the Kavanaugh fight, this will stoke voter enthusiasm even further ahead of the oh so important midterm elections.”
