Stephanie Ruhle: It’s ‘Humiliating And Laughable’ For Rick Santorum To Call Puerto Rico A Country

Reacting to President Donald Trump’s conspiracy-peddling tweets about Puerto Rico’s death toll in the wake of Hurricane Maria, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle blasted one of the president’s loyal media defenders for his ignorant comments on Puerto Rico.

Discussing the president’s claim that thousands did not die from the hurricane with Washington Post reporter Robert Costa, Ruhle brought up CNN political commentator and former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s on-air flub in which he called Puerto Rico a country.

“The president’s base might say who cares about Puerto Rico, that island, they’re our neighbor,” Ruhle exclaimed before bringing up Santorum’s botch.

“I think Rick Santorum yesterday calling Puerto Rico a country when it’s laughable and humiliating for Rick Santorum to even say it’s a country when we all know it’s a U.S. territory,” the MSNBC host declared.

She then wondered aloud who the president thinks will get behind him when he dismissed the official death count, other than his core base. Ruhle also noted that the hundreds of thousands of people who fled the island for the mainland can now vote in presidential elections moving forward.
