One thing that has become apparent during the Rise of Trump is how it has seemingly given permission to conservative voices in the media to stop with the dog-whistling and just be open with their hateful bigotry. Where in the past a talk radio host would use code words and skirt around the edges, today that same personality feels free to unleash a torrent of racism.
It is in that vein we come across Howie Carr, a Boston-area right-wing radio host who has fully embraced Trumpism and has become one of the GOP nominee’s loudest supporters in the Northeast. He’s played surrogate for Donald Trump on many an occasion and joined him on stage at rallies. And, of course, Trump has been a guest of his program.
Well, on Wednesday’s broadcast, Carr decided to weigh in on the Iran Deal and President Obama’s decision making. It started off with standard Republican fearmongering about how the agreement would lead to Iran building up its nuclear arsenal and eventually nuking us all, all in the name of Allah. Carr then went into how Obama signed it all because he’s too politically correct and wants to show everyone how he celebrates diversity.
After a bit more of that tirade, where he told liberals they’d die too in the Iranian nuclear holocaust that is sure to come because of Obama’s blunder, he then offered up this little social critique of a black man being POTUS:
“That’s the worst thing about this administration. They’ve taken — it took 230 years to make this the greatest country, the greatest society in human history, and they are trying to unravel it and destroy it for — I don’t know why. I still don’t know why. What is — this country handed everything to Barack Obama. He didn’t have to work for anything. Just because of the color of his skin he was given everything. And he still hates the country.”
Just bathe in that for a bit. Barack Obama had everything handed to him on a silver platter because he’s a black man. But, still, despite the American people giving him all of these things he clearly didn’t deserve, he still hates the United States. In fact, he hates it so much, he’d prefer to see if nuked by a bunch of jihadists than continue to exist. Why is that? Why does he hate this country so much? (Hint: Because he’s a black Muslim socialist from Kenya.)
Something like this would have likely led to Carr being tossed off the air for good in the recent past. Instead, his ratings will rise and he’ll be praised by Trump himself for telling it like it is.
