Post-debate analysis is still continuing from Monday night, with most commentators judging Donald Trump the loser. Stephen Colbert told The Late Show last night that Trump clearly didn’t prepare for the debate against Hillary Clinton.
Colbert pointed out that Trump’s ‘problems with the truth’ were a highlight of the evening and blamed Trump’s lack of preparation for lying 34 times. He also interrupted Clinton 51 times over the course of 90 minutes. Colbert wasn’t surprised by Trump’s performance.
“It’s no surprise really,” Colbert said. “Before the debate Politico analyzed a week’s worth of Trump’s speeches and found that Trump averaged about one falsehood every three minutes and 15 seconds — which is damning.”
“A lot of people said Trump didn’t seem prepared — possibly because he was not. Apparently Trump’s advisers said it was a waste of time to try and fill his head with facts and figures” Colbert said. This was widely reported before the debate as the candidates’ preparations were scrutinized.
“Right, it’s wasting time,” Colbert said. “There’s no room in there, it’s already full of ethnic slurs and different wife names.”
