Donald Trump: “I Will Win The African American Vote And I Think I Will Win The Hispanic Vote”

Donald Trump: “I Will Win The African American Vote And I Think I Will Win The Hispanic Vote”

In one of his three appearances on the Sunday morning talk shows, Republican Presidential candidate and sentient cat toy Donald Trump boasted that he’d win both the Latino and African American votes. Speaking to This Week’s Jonathan Karl, Trump defended and backed up a previous statement he made about President Obama ruining the White House for future black candidates, stating that Obama has let the entire black community down. Trump then made the rather silly claim that he’d actually win the black vote if he gets the Republican nomination.

Below is from the transcript of the show:

KARL: So let me ask you about something you tweeted last year. You said of Barack Obama, “Sadly, because President Obama has done such a poor job as president, you won’t see another black president for generations.”

What did you mean by that?

TRUMP: Well, I think he’s been a very poor president. I think he has done a very poor job as president. We have $18 trillion right now in debt and going up rapidly.

KARL: But what did you mean? What —

TRUMP: Wait a minute.

The world is — we don’t have victories anymore. China is killing us on trade. Mexico’s killing us at the border and also killing us on trade. Mexico’s doing unbelievably against us in trade.

You look at what’s going on with Japan. You look at what’s going on with Vietnam. You look at Saudi Arabia, makes $1 billion a day and we defend them. We get nothing.

KARL: I understand your critique. But why do you say that means we won’t see another black president for generations?

TRUMP: Because I think that he has set a very poor standard. I think that he has set a very low bar and I think it’s a shame for the African American people.

And by the way, he has done nothing for African Americans. You look at what’s gone on with their income levels. You look at what’s gone on with their youth. I thought that he would be a great cheerleader for this country. I thought he’d do a fabulous job for the African American citizens of this country.

He has done nothing. They are worse now than just about ever and —

KARL: But —

TRUMP: — they are — excuse me. They have problems now in terms of unemployment numbers, look at their unemployment numbers. And you have — here you have a black president who’s done very poorly for the African Americans of this country.

And I think that I will win the African American vote and I think I will win the Hispanic vote. And if you see the recent polls that came out, Jon, you’ll see that because I’m leading in the Hispanic vote.

Man, that is a whole lot of fucking crazy to digest there. First off, just no. No, you aren’t going to WIN the black vote. At best, you can maybe hope to gather 5% of it. There is no fucking way a guy who has pushed birther conspiracies about the first African American person in the White House, while simultaneously saying “the blacks” love him, is going to get anything close to a majority of black voters to cast a ballot for him. In a recent Marist poll, Trump gets 1% of the black vote when facing Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush.

And while Trump loves to boast about his GOP poll numbers, perhaps he should take a close look at them and see what they actually say. Sure, he might be on top of the Republican polls, but that’s only because there are roughly 5 trillion candidates and he’s dominated the press with his buffoonery. Even with the fact that he’s on TV and radio 24-7 spewing every bit of xenophobic and racist nonsense that is supposed to appeal to the very heart of the average GOP voter, he’s still only getting 19% of the Republican vote, per the latest NBC/WSJ poll.

Beyond that, when paired up against any Democratic candidate, whether it’s Hillary or Bernie or Smokin’ Joe Biden, he gets absolutely trounced. Why? Because more people than not think he’s an absolute joke. (He has by far the highest net unfavorability of all the candidates.) We keep hearing about all this ‘Trumpmentum’ bullshit, but the fact of the matter is people are now starting to get sick of the sideshow. It was fun for a while, watching a nearly 70-year-old baby satiate his ego on the national stage because he has the personal resources to do so. But, it gets old, and when there is no substance behind all the yelling, people tend to move on.

  1. Trump needs to give us advanced warning whenever he decides to share his political insights and self-assessments … so that we have a chance to fetch our shovels and hip waders.
