Mika Brzezinski Coins Term ‘Pencing’ For Pence’s Inability To Call David Duke Deplorable

In the wake of Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” comment, the Trump campaign has attempted to make hay out of the perceived fallout. Donald Trump has made several speeches hammering at the Democratic nominee for ridiculing “hard working” Americans while his surrogates have pushed talking points that Clinton is dividing the nation. In this vein, running mate Mike Pence sat down for an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer earlier this week.

Of course, since Pence is a quivering bowl of Jell-O, he ended up shooting himself — and the campaign — right in the dick. When confronted with ex-KKK leader David Duke’s continued support of Trump, Blitzer asked Pence if he could at the very least describe Duke as “deplorable.” Despite it being a teed-up pitch to crush out of the park, Pence struck out, claiming he wasn’t in the “name-calling business” and twice refusing to just say ‘yes.’

Following up that disastrous interview, Pence has stated that he just didn’t want to embrace Hillary’s terminology while still refusing to call Duke deplorable or vile or whatever. In response to this, the Morning Joe panel on Wednesday excoriated Pence for creating a Rube Goldberg-esque trap for himself in order to avoid contradicting Trump. Co-host Joe Scarborough noted that Pence could have just avoided this entire situation y just saying, “Yes. David Duke is deplorable. Next question.”

Later on in the broadcast, co-host Mika Brzezinski coined a term to describe Pence and other Republicans inability to disagree, criticize or contradict Trump on anything, especially when it comes to his playing footsie with white supremacists — Pencing.

And Mika is absolutely correct. Rather than just agree that 2 + 2 = 4, we’re stuck with this level of stammering equivocation from GOPers so as not to upset the Trumpster. He forces them into a corner with his embrace of racism and bigotry, and they wither in the heat.
