Amy Klobuchar Withdraws from Biden’s Veepstakes: He Should Choose a Woman of Color
Senator Amy Klobuchar has ruled out serving as former Vice President Joe Biden’s running mate. The Minnesota Democrat said Biden should instead choose a woman of color to join him on the Democratic Party’s ticket in November’s election.
“I think this is a moment to put a woman of color on that ticket,” Klobuchar told MSNBC.
“If you want to heal this nation right now, my party, yes, but our nation this is sure a hell of a way to do it.”

Klobuchar’s presidential campaign failed to gain much traction and media reports about her behavior toward her staff may have distracted from her bid for the Democratic nomination. She was discussed as a possible VP nominee but the recent protests over the death of George Floyd, which began in her home state of Minnesota, have made it more likely Biden will choose a woman of color.
Senator Kamala Harris remains a firm favorite for the VP nod, while other possible choices are former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. Biden has not yet indicated whether he will choose a person of color to run with him.
The former Vice President promised earlier in his campaign that he’d choose a female running mate – even before winning the necessary number of delegates to become his party’s candidate. Though the importance of the VP pick has waned in recent decades, choosing the right person could give Democrats a PR boost.
