Fox News Foreign Correspondent: Iran Could Be ‘Held Accountable’ for Lying About Coronavirus Cases
Fox News Foreign Correspondent Trey Yingst suggested on Monday that Iran could be held accountable by the international community for under-reporting the cases of Coronavirus in the country. Yingst made the comments on Fox & Friends while delivering a report.
Yingst gave a wide-ranging report on the global situation, beginning with conditions in the UK and Italy.
“Officials there are urging people not to let their guards down,” Yingst said. “And in Vatican City yesterday, a striking scene as pope Francis celebrated Palm Sunday mass in an empty church. Across the Mediterranean in Spain the country has seen two consecutive days of health decline looking at the number of deaths from Covid-19.”
“Data released by Spanish authorities yesterday indicates that 87% of the deaths from Coronavirus there occurred 70-years-old. Spain does remain the second worst hit country behind the United States.”
“When we talk about worst hit countries around the world, it’s important to note that evidence and reports indicate that countries like China and Iran lying about the number of deaths and cases within their borders,” he said.
“It’s also important to note that the next question likely to be rising from the international community is how the countries should be held accountable for their actions.”
Yingst’s comments about China echo talking points in conservative media and political circles, but his question about countries looking to punish Iran seems somewhat out of place. The country has been hard hit by Coronavirus due in part to U.S. sanctions.
