Brian Kilmeade Asks: Is a Coronavirus Cure Not Moving Forward Because People Hate Trump?
Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade made a bizarre suggestion on Thursday during an interview with Dr. Mehmet Oz. The Fox & Friends host asked if people disliking President Donald Trump had caused a delay in finding a cure for Covid-19. The discussion was about the use of hydroxychloroquine, which has not yet been approved for use.
The President mentioned the drug some time ago but it is far too early to start prescribing it. Nonetheless, Kilmeade saw a political dimension.
“Dr. Oz, I don’t get this. Let’s reframe this, you ready?” Kilmeade said. “So the French say it works. The Chinese say it works. You’re getting studies to show it works. You’re trying to tell people in New York to test this. You said you were going to. Have you been able to get an answer if they’re testing this or not?”
“Do you think, perhaps, even though you don’t know for sure, politics is playing a role in this?”
“The fact that the President thought he could be optimistic on it. Did that actually bring politics into this and is this cure not moving forward because people don’t like the President?”
Kilmeade’s suggestion is alarming and wrong. Hydroxychloroquine has shown promise as a treatment but it is far away from being a proven cure. Dr. Oz largely ignored Kilmeade’s suggestion of political motive, but the co-host returned to the topic later.
“People are dying because of politics,” Kilmeade said, re-enforcing his earlier claim about political interference in finding a cure.
