RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel: ‘Dollars Are The Polls Right Now’
Republican National Committee Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel told Fox & Friends on Friday that polls didn’t matter because President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign was ahead in fundraising. McDaniel argued that money was a better indication of voters’ intentions than opinion polls, most of which look bad for the President.
“The Democrats’ impeachment push seems to be back firing the President’s 2020 campaign at least when it comes to money and the RNC announcing a $13 million fundraising hall within 36 hours of Nancy Pelosi’s inquiry,” Fox News host Brian Kilmeade said.
“Well, they’ve been trying to impeach this President since day one,” McDaniel said.
“Democrats have never accepted the results of 2016. What this dollar figure shows is the energy with our base is strong. They recognize Democrats are trying to nullify their votes and it’s just bringing in so much enthusiasm but also financial support for the President, which is allowing us right now to attack Democrats in their home districts.”
Kilmeade pointed out that the RNC took in $125 million in the last quarter, while some Democratic presidential candidates had disappointing funding hauls. The first Democratic caucus will not take place until February, 2020. Republicans are also typically more successful with big money donors.
“Elizabeth Warren hasn’t released her numbers yet,” McDaniel said. “Look at Bernie Sanders’ $25 million. The RNC and the Trump campaign combined – $125 million. That’s double where Obama was heading into his re-election.”
“Dollars are the polls right now. The money coming in for this President is showing that we are well ahead. People know their lives are better and they are willing to put their money behind it.”
McDaniel is unsurprisingly focusing on fundraising numbers instead of polls. Recent reliable polling shows a majority of Americans support impeachment of the President, while he loses in theoretical 2020 matchups with most of the main Democratic presidential hopefuls.
