Joe Scarborough: What If Barack Obama Had Called Himself King Of Israel And Second Coming Of God?
President Donald Trump’s comments this week have led to widespread speculation about his mental fitness but MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough wondered what the reaction might have been if former President Barack Obama had made the same comments.
“What’s any explanation for it?” Morning Joe regular Wille Geist asked. “What’s any explanation for him standing on the stage in Helsinki and ceding the ground when Jonathan Lemire asked him a question a couple of summers ago to Vladimir Putin.”
“Can you imagine, and it’s a game we’ve played a lot. But let’s just think about it ,if this was another president, a Democrat, say Barack Obama, saying, you know what, let’s let Russia back into the G8, it’s not so bad. Republicans would be pounding the desk and rightfully so.”
Geist wondered why there was no Republican outrage at Trump’s comments. Scarborough took the analogy further.
“This is happening now and, Mika, I ask, again, playing this game that we used to play when Barack Obama was president, we would say, can you imagine if a Republican had done that?” Scarborough said.
“We always did that, now we’ve reversed it because a Republican is in the White House. What if Barack Obama was this obsequious on every issue involving Russia and what if Barack Obama came out and declared himself yesterday the King of Israel?”
“Oh, my lord,” co-host Mika Brzezinski said.
“The second coming of God,” Scarborough continued.
“The chosen one,” Brzezinski said.
“And the chosen one,” Scarborough said. “Just think about that for a second. It would be extraordinary. The self-righteousness raining down from above in Washington, D.C. would be over the top and yet these Republicans blindly follow this very erratic unmoored man.”
