BBC Host Fired for Racist Shot Comparing New Royal Baby to a Chimpanzee

The BBC has fired a longtime radio host over his racist “gag pic” of the new royal baby.

Danny Baker had tweeted out a photo of a well-dressed couple holding hands with a chimpanzee wearing human clothes. The picture was captioned “Royal baby leaves hospital.”

The new baby, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, is of mixed race. Meghan’s mother, Doris Ragland, is African-American.

In his defense, Baker offered the classic non-apology apology:

Sorry my gag pic of the little fella in the posh outfit has whipped some up. Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased. Soon as those good enough to point out it’s possible connotations got in touch, down it came. And that’s it. Now stand by for sweary football tweets

After some more backlash, he kept trying:

Now Sky at the door.
Would have used same stupid pic for any other Royal birth or Boris Johnson kid or even one of my own. It’s a funny image. (Though not of course in that context.) Enormous mistake, for sure. Grotesque.

It was not enough for his radio station, which said in a statement, “This was a serious error of judgment and goes against the values we as a station aim to embody.”

Baker reacted to his firing by calling it “a masterclass of pompous faux-gravity” and claimed he was “literally [thrown] under the bus.” So first thing he can do with his newfound free time is learn how to properly use the word “literally.”

This was reportedly the third time Baker has been fired by the BBC, and the second time he was dropped by 5 live.
