WATCH: Fox Anchor’s Attempt to Prove Medicare for All Is Unpopular Blows Up in His Face
During Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ Fox News town hall event Monday evening, the crowd — which moderator and Fox News anchor Bret Baier said was politically diverse — didn’t play along with Baier’s attempt to own Sanders on the idea that Medicare for All was politically unpopular.
In the combative and raucous town hall that included Baier calling on Sanders to stop criticizing the network and the Vermont senator telling the moderators to ask Donald Trump about his taxes, Sanders was asked by an audience member why he believed he the government could provide better health care coverage than the private sector.
After Sanders explained that it isn’t necessarily government-run as much as it is single-payer insurance, meaning you would still use the same hospital and doctor system, Baier wanted to poll the audience.
“This audience has a lot of Democrats in it. It has Republicans, independents, democratic socialists, conservatives. I want to ask the audience a question,” Baier said. “How many people get their insurance from work, private insurance, right now?”
A large percentage of the crowd raised their hands, as did Sanders and Baier. The Fox News anchor then asked: “Of those, how many are willing to transition, to what the senator says, a government-run system?”
Nearly every hand that was raised before remained up, all while the audience erupted into cheers.
Ummm, oops.
