Chris Wallace Goes Full ‘A Few Good Men’ On Giuliani: ‘I’m Asking You For The Truth, Sir!’
Chris Wallace wants the truth, regardless if he can handle it or not.
The Fox News Sunday anchor welcomed on former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani and immediately pressed President Donald Trump’s TV lawyer about former Trump attorney Michael Cohen’s assertion that the president directed him to make hush payments to two women during the 2016 election. What we saw was Giuliani bumbling around in an attempt to confuse the issue while Wallace grew increasingly frustrated, eventually resulting in the Fox News host confronting the one-time America’s Mayor.
After Giuliani answered Wallace’s question about whether Trump ordered the payments by saying even if it were true it isn’t a crime, Wallace told him he wanted to “get to the simple fact question of whether the president directed Cohen to make these payments or not.” He then went on to play a clip of Cohen saying Trump “doesn’t tell the truth and it’s sad.”
“Does the president tell the truth or not?” Wallace asked.
“The president is telling the truth, yes,” Giuliani responded. “This man is lying. It is not a big surprise to you, that Michael Cohen’s lying? The man got up in front of the judge and said I was fiercely loyal to Donald Trump. Nonsense he was fiercely loyal to him. He taped him, lied to him, revealed the tape and did something a lawyer I’ve never heard ever did, tape record his own client. He sat there with Chris Cuomo, told him he wasn’t being taped, and he lied to him and taped him for two hours. The man is a complete pathological liar.”
Wallace went on to note that the real question is the credibility of the president and not of Cohen, explaining that the president has switched his story numerous times about the hush payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal. The veteran journalist further brought up the fact that Cohen and Trump discussed the McDougal payment made by National Enquirer published David Pecker and Trump attending a meeting with Pecker and Cohen discussing the payments.
“It doesn’t matter,” Giuliani insisted. “Whether it happened or it didn’t happen, it’s not illegal.”
“Your moving shells around on me,” Wallace shot back. “Either it happened or didn’t happen.”
“But that’s what lawyers do all the time — you argue in the alternative,” the ex-mayor stated, causing Wallace to go full A Few Good Men on Giuliani.
“I’m asking you for the truth, sir!” he shouted.
The two would continue to tangle as Wallace kept trying to get straight answers out of Giuliani and the president’s lawyer kept pivoting and deflecting, leading Wallace to try (largely unsuccessfully) to get Rudy to focus on the topic at hand. Eventually, they moved on to the Michale Flynn case, which was another animated and off-the-rails discussion.
