Jon Stewart Calls On Americans To ‘Prevail’ Against Trump’s ‘Gleeful Cruelty And Dickishness’
Days after President Donald Trump tore into the three major network late-night comedy hosts during a campaign rally speech, former Daily Show host popped up on his old buddy Stephen Colbert’s show to deliver a fiery and pointed message to the president.
Appearing from beneath The Late Show host’s desk, Stewart settled in and addressed Trump personally. “Hello, Donald. It’s me, the guy you made sure everyone knew was Jewish on Twitter,” Stewart noted, referencing his one-time feud with the then-reality TV star.
“I know you’re upset about all the criticism you’ve been taking in the ‘fake news’ and the ‘fake late-night shows,’ it’s just that we’re still having a little trouble adjusting to your presidency as it goes into its 500th year,” the funnyman added.
From there, he brought up how the president has taken everything “off its axis” by portraying Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un as “noble, intelligent role models” while acting like Canada’s just a “bunch of giant assholes,” letting Trump know that its “hard to get used to.”
Stewart continued, “If there’s one hallmark to your presidency that I think we’re finding most difficult, it’s that, no matter what you do, it always comes with an extra layer of gleeful cruelty and dickishness.”
The veteran comedian, who recently made a return to the stage, went on to highlight how the president can’t just he doesn’t want NFL players taking a knee, he must call them sons of bitches; he can’t just deny that he sexually assaulted a woman, he has to say they’re too ugly to have sex with; he can’t just disagree with the media, he has to call them the enemy of the people.
Stewart offered up some ideas to put an end to Trump’s “gratuitous dickishness” — a news channel that praises him 24/7, a volcano destroying the island his arch-nemesis grew up on, a building filled with gold toilets and his name on it — only to be told by Colbert that the president had all those things.
After stating that he won’t allow Trump or his sycophants to turn his “cruelty into virtue” because the “majority of American people aren’t assholes,” Stewart ended his rant with this:
“What Donald Trump wants is for us to stop calling his cruelty, and fear and divisiveness wrong. But to join him in calling it right. This will not do. By not yielding we will prevail.”
