CNN’s Brian Karem Calls White House Press Shop An ‘Office Of Propaganda’: ‘We Should Push Back Harder’
Days after he blew up at White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders while trying to get her to answer whether she had empathy for immigrant families being separated, CNN political analyst and Playboy White House reporter Brian Karem tore into the press secretary’s office, calling it an “office of propaganda.”
Asked by Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter if he regretted losing his cool, Karem responded by saying he wanted to apologize for not coming to the table sooner to call out the White House over the policy of separating migrant children from their parents.
“I’m sorry to those people for waiting so long and holding my temper,” the White House press corps member stated. “I am sorry that I am extremely angry with this administration that has lied to me, continues to lie to me.”
Stelter reacted by telling Karem he respected what he was saying but that there are people who feel he “came across as a caricature” and made it all about himself during the briefing. Karem disagreed with that sentiment, saying it wasn’t legitimate.
“We have been playing by the old rules for so long that we forgot where we are with this administration,” Karem declared. “For fact, it was Sarah Huckabee Sanders who brought her family into the press room. She beat us over the head with it.”
He continued, “We have been berated, lied to, insulted. We have been told we have less credibility than the President of the United States. We have been lectured at. That office used to be an office of information. It is now an office of disinformation. It’s an office of propaganda. We should push back harder. I have heard from numerous — I think the vast majority of Americans are as inflamed by this issue than any other. It’s a basic question of humanity. It must be addressed.”
Stelter would go on to play some clips from Fox News and conservative personalities complaining about Karem’s outburst and calling for him to have his press credentials revoked. Karem reacted by noting he has a “thick hide” and that he’s in that room to ask questions and get answers, adding that his question about empathy was a “softball” to Sanders that she could have easily given a response to.
