MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace Says She’s ‘Totally Triggered’ By Sarah Sanders: ‘She Debases That Podium’
Reacting to White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ admission to Special Counsel Robert Mueller that she lied to reporters about former FBI Director James Comey following his termination, MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace explained to her audience that her show has a policy of never airing Sanders because the White House spokesperson has her “totally triggered.”
In the recently released Mueller report, Sanders told the special counsel under oath that it was a “slip of the tongue” when she told White House reporters that “countless” FBI officials had lost confidence in Comey prior to Trump firing him, adding that she was speaking in the “heat of the moment.” Mueller noted that her remarks were not founded in reality. Sanders has since attempted to walk back her admission, refusing to admit that she lied to Mueller.
During a Deadline: White House panel discussion on Sanders’s lies from the podium, Wallace said that she remembered at the time she felt Sanders’ remarks on Comey were untrue because there’s “no appropriate contact between a political appointee who works in the West Wing and rank and file FBI agents.”
“Still to see it called out in the Mueller report as a lie jolted me,” she added.
GOP strategist Rick Wilson brought up the fact that Wallace was once the Bush White House’s communications director, telling Wallace she was “considerate and thoughtful in the things you said because you had to be.” After Wilson said that Sanders is “willing and comfortable telling lies” and no one tells the truth in the Trump administration, Wallace lashed out at both Sanders and White House counselor Kellyanne Conway.
“We set out a policy for this program for our hour never to air a clip of Sarah Huckabee Sanders because she debases that podium,” Wallace declared. “And because I spent a little bit of time there enough to be totally triggered by anyone — Kellyanne Conway, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, their deputies, anyone that debases that building.”
She continued: “When I see them on Air Force One or the South Lawn or in front of the podium, Kellyanne and her constant Fox appearances from the North Lawn, there is something so repulsive about being taxpayer-funded government employees –– who if the country is attacked by anthrax or by terrorists will have to go out and tell the American people what they should do next –– they use their position to lie.”
