Trump Calls Democrats ‘Party of Lies and Deception’ Hours Before Impeachment Vote

President Donald Trump woke up early on Friday morning and started tweeting just hours before the House Judiciary Committee was due to vote on articles of impeachment. Trump’s last tweet on Thursday was sent just six hours before he started again.

Today’s impeachment vote was clearly on his mind and he praised Republicans on the committee for their antics yesterday.

“The Republicans House members were fantastic yesterday,” he said. “It always helps to have a much better case, in fact the Dems have no case at all, but the unity & sheer brilliance of these Republican warriors, all of them, was a beautiful sight to see. Dems had no answers and wanted out!”

Republicans engaged in a combination of parliamentary obstruction, spreading conspiracy theories and outright lying at Thursday’s debate on articles of impeachment. Congressman Louie Gohmert made perhaps the most egregious remarks, likening impeachment to Pearl Harbor and comparing Chairman Jerry Nadler to Stalin.

Trump attacked the Democrats, implying once again that the impeachment process was some kind of hoax.

“The Do Nothing Democrats have become the Party of lies and deception! The Republicans are the Party of the American Dream!” he said.

The frequency of Trump’s tweets has increased over the past few days as the formal vote on impeachment approaches. The House Judiciary Committee is expected to approve both articles of impeachment by a party line vote, beginning at 10am ET. It remains to be seen whether Trump will continue tweeting throughout the process.
