Donald Trump has claimed that Facebook, Twitter and Google are trying to suppress the recent story about the FBI’s new investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails. Trump has claimed many times that the media are corrupt and trying to bury negative news about Clinton.
“Wow, Twitter, Google and Facebook are burying the FBI criminal investigation of Clinton. Very dishonest media!” Trump said on Twitter. It is unclear what basis Trump has for his claims. He provided no evidence to support his idea that two major social networks and the world’s largest search engine are trying to protect Clinton.
Trump has previously claimed that Google had deliberately suppressed negative stories about Clinton. Facebook has come under fire for its attempt to curate news in an attempt to reduce the number of phony news stories going viral on the site. The result was legitimate stories being flagged.
Trump has argued many times that the media invents stories and is biased for Clinton. He has attacked The New York Times, The Washington Post and CNN for what he claims is bias. Trump claimed that a major story on accusations of sexual harassment against him were hyped up by dishonest media.
The new investigation was the top trending story on Google News, undermining Trump’s argument that the search engine is trying to suppress the information.
