Donald Trump Hints at 2024 Run: ‘I’ll See You in Four Years’

President Donald Trump has suggested he could run for president again in 2024 following his defeat on November 3. He made the remarks at a White House reception where several members of the Republican National Committee were in attendance.

“It’s been an amazing four years,” Trump said. “We’re trying to do another four years. Otherwise, I’ll see you in four years.”

The Trump campaign has mounted dozens of legal challenges in key states attempting to overturn the results of the election and alleging mass voter fraud among other irregularities. No evidence has emerged for these claims and the campaign lawsuits have been overwhelmingly unsuccessful.

Speculation about Trump’s future has been rife since it appeared former Vice President Joe Biden had won the election, making the Republican a one-term president. Though he may have major legal issues after he leaves office, a run for the presidency in 2024 has already been mooted in some quarters.

It’s highly unusual in recent history for a president who lost re-election to run again. The last time a president in Trump’s position successfully returned to the White House was Grover Cleveland in 1892. Cleveland, a Democrat, defeated incumbent Republican President Benjamin Harrison. However, Cleveland remains the only president ever to serve two non-consecutive terms.

It remains to be seen what Trump’s post-presidency will look like but some reports suggested that he could try to pre-empt President-elect Biden’s inauguration on January 20 by announcing a second run for office four years from the 2024 election.
