Trump Tweets About Kneeling for the National Anthem Before Lying About Coronavirus

President Donald Trump was up early on Tuesday, watching Fox & Friends and tweeting about a variety of subjects. As the U.S. death toll from Covid-19 reaches 140,000, the President first chose to tweet about sports players kneeling for the national anthem before lying about how well the country is doing on the virus.

“Looking forward to live sports, but any time I witness a player kneeling during the National Anthem, a sign of great disrespect for our Country and our Flag, the game is over for me!” Trump wrote.

Trump made an unsubstantiated claim about progress on vaccines and therapeutics before tweeting a clear falsehood about how the U.S. is coping with the pandemic.

“You will never hear this on the Fake News concerning the China Virus, but by comparison to most other countries, who are suffering greatly, we are doing very well – and we have done things that few other countries could have done!” he tweeted.

The President has repeatedly downplayed the seriousness of the virus, and recently told Fox News’ Chris Wallace that many cases were just the sniffles. His continued denial of reality comes as polls show Americans don’t trust him on the issue.
