Fox’s Ainsley Earhardt on Crime and Shootings: ‘People Asked for This’

Fox News’ Ainsley Earhardt suggested on Tuesday that recent crimes, shootings and murders were directly linked to protests calling for police reforms and in particular calls to defund the police. The Fox & Friends hosts highlighted local crime over the weekend as part of their ongoing criticism of Black Lives Matter protests.

The hosts mentioned – and echoed – White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany’s complaints that reporters asked her about the Confederate flag but not crime. Earhardt then offered her take.

“Well, people asked for this. This is what they wanted,” she said. “They wanted CHOP zones that were police-free zones. If you got arrested and you go to jail, you don’t have to pay bail. You go right back out on the street and you can go back and commit more crimes.”

“If you had Covid in the jail or they were worried about Covid in the jail, so they let prisoners out,” Earhardt went on.

“They were pouring water on the cops right out on the street, remember that?” she asked, referring to a story Fox News strongly hyped at the time.

“Police officers were turning their backs on Bill de Blasio not too long ago and now we have this situation and Bill de Blasio is blaming it all on Covid. There are consequences to all of this. Little kids are dying on our streets because they’re getting caught in the cross hairs of these bullets.”
