Trump Says Supreme Court Decisions Are ‘Shotgun Blasts into the Face’ of Conservatives

President Donald Trump made an extraordinary statement on Thursday following the Supreme Court’s decision blocking his administration from ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The President compared recent SCOTUS rulings to being shot in the face.

“These horrible & politically charged decisions coming out of the Supreme Court are shotgun blasts into the face of people that are proud to call themselves Republicans or Conservatives,” Trump tweeted.

“We need more Justices or we will lose our 2nd. Amendment [sic] & everything else. Vote Trump 2020!”

“Do you get the impression that the Supreme Court doesn’t like me?” Trump said in another tweet.

There’s little doubt Trump was also referring to this week’s decision that found LGBT people enjoy employment protections under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. The ruling saw conservative Trump appointee Justice Neil Gorsuch side with the liberals and write the majority opinion.

Trump has appointed two justices – Gorsuch and the much more controversial nominee Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh voted with the minority in both these cases, while Gorsuch also joined the conservatives in the DACA ruling, which swung to the liberals because Chief Justice John Roberts joined them. Roberts is a Bush appointee.
