Fox’s Brian Kilmeade: I’m ‘A Little Fascinated’ That Most Americans Think Police Treat Black People Differently

Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade seemed confused on Wednesday that a majority of Americans think police treat African Americans differently. The Fox & Friends host was referring to recent polling that shows Americans overwhelmingly believe treatment is disparate based on race.

Kilmeade and his co-hosts were discussing possible reforms to the police, including deescalation training and greater use of body cameras. These ideas have been proposed before and have come back into the spotlight as protests about the death of George Floyd have continued.

“This is something that can be worked out, they can put something together unless people say well, the election’s coming up in five months, I think we deserve full credit for police reform,” Kilmeade said.

“I’m a little fascinated to see the Wall Street Journal say … does a study along with NBC, they do a poll and most Americans do believe that discrepancy the way African-Americans are treated by law enforcement as opposed to whites.”

“And they do think there’s something beyond George Floyd’s issue, there’s something endemic within law enforcement that needs to be addressed.”

Recent polling has marked a sea change in public attitudes about policing and race. As recently as 2014, a majority of Americans did not believe African American deaths at the hands of police were part of a racial injustice problem. The position has now changed.
