A string of celebrities has joined the chorus of condemnation after President Donald Trump said he would deploy the military against protesters if state governors didn’t act to quell unrest. A number of prominent personalities added their voices to the clamor.

Director Spike Lee took to Twitter to warn that the U.S. was teetering on the edge of dictatorship following the President’s announcement.

“Agent Orange Iz On Some General George Patton,John Wayne,White Savior And Bible Holding BULLSHIT. The United States Of America Iz On Da Verge Of Dictatorship. WTF. OMG. Lawd Have Mercy,” he said.

Singer John Legend, a frequent critic of Trump’s, also blasted the President for his photo opp outside a Washington, D.C. church. Protesters were reportedly teargassed to clear a path for Trump.

“Trump had to prove he could walk in broad daylight today so he sicced the police on peaceful protesters so he could stand there and awkwardly hold the Bible. Dear God. We need to end this nightmare of a presidency,” Legend tweeted.

The showbiz world has rounded on the President in recent days as video has shown police attacking peaceful protesters and journalists. Already BeyoncΓ© and Lady Gaga have called for justice for George Floyd, along with Taylor Swift, Samuel L. Jackson and others.
