Photo Emerges of Trump Wearing Face Mask on Visit to Michigan

A new photo has emerged of President Donald Trump wearing a face mask on his visit to a Ford auto plant in Michigan on Thursday. The President has resisted wearing a mask in public and even repeated that he didn’t want the press to see him wearing one yesterday.

Trump later showed the mask to reporters. It was emblazoned with the presidential seal, which can just be made out in the photo circulating on Twitter on Friday. This is the first time Trump has been seen to wear a mask and the photo was clearly not supposed to be taken.

Authorities in Michigan told the President that he had to wear a face covering during his trip because current state law required it. The state’s attorney general even wrote a letter to that effect, but Trump refused to wear one in front of the cameras – at least the ones he could see.

The image has begun to spread widely online and some news reports have picked it up.

“I didn’t want to give the press the pleasure of seeing it,” Trump told the press on Thursday while not wearing the mask. “It was very nice. It looked very nice. They said not necessary.”

It is not yet clear who took the photo of President Trump wearing the mask but it doesn’t appear to have been a press photographer as he was in the back area of the plant.
