Taxpayers Have Shelled Out Nearly $1 Million at Trump’s Businesses Since He Took Office

The U.S. government has paid President Donald Trump’s company at least $970,000 since Trump took office, The Washington Post reports.

This amount includes payments for more than 1,600 room rentals for staffers and Secret Service agents related to trips by Trump, his family, and top administration officials.

The Post notes that it could not find a single example of a Trump property charging the government “like 50 bucks” — the amount it receives according to Eric Trump, who runs day-to-day operations with his brother, Donald Jr. In fact, the lowest recorded nightly room rate was $141.66. The highest, meanwhile, was $650 at Mar-a-Lago, the president’s private golf club in Florida.

Trump has visited his properties 250 times since his inauguration in January 2017, according to a count by the Post. During his holiday vacation this past winter in Mar-a-Lago, records show the Secret Service paid more than $32,000.

The Post reported late last month that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin lived at Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. for about half a year in 2017, causing the Secret Service to rack up a bill north of $33,000.
