Australian PM Contradicts Trump: No Evidence Coronavirus Comes from a Lab

The Prime Minister of Australia has said he has seen no evidence that Coronavirus originated in a Chinese lab. Scott Morrison made the remarks after President Donald Trump claimed at a press conference that he’d seen some proof that the disease was made in a laboratory in Wuhan.

“What we have before us doesn’t suggest that that is the likely source,” Morrison said on Friday.

“There’s nothing we have that would indicate that was the likely source, though you can’t rule anything out in these environments,” the prime minister said.

“We know it started in China, we know it started in Wuhan, the most likely scenario that has been canvassed relates to wildlife wet markets, but that’s a matter that would have to be thoroughly assessed.”

The current medical consensus is that Covid-19 began in poorly regulated wet markets in the Chinese province and have linked it to transmission between rare animals. U.S. intelligence agencies have also dismissed the idea the disease was manufactured.

However, President Trump caused a stir on Thursday by claiming he’d seen evidence Covid-19 came from a lab. He declined to provide details, claiming he wasn’t allowed to talk about it. This alarming suggestion comes after the President mused about injecting disinfectant to fight the virus.
