Trump Calls Georgia Reopening ‘Too Soon’ Despite Clamoring to Restart Economy Himself

President Donald Trump has said he disagrees with Governor Brian Kemp’s decision to reopen Georgia amid the Coronavirus global pandemic. This is despite the fact the President has been talking up reopening the economy for weeks.

Kemp, who is a Republican, plans to ease Covid-19 restrictions in violation of federal guidelines issued by the Trump administration. On Wednesday, the President reprimanded the governor for his decision, which has been widely criticized in the press.

“I want him to do what he thinks is right, but I disagree with him on what he’s doing,” Trump said.

“I think spas and beauty salons and tattoo parlours and barbershops in phase one … is just too soon.”

Kemp was mocked on 1 April for saying he’d just discovered Coronavirus could be passed on by people without symptoms and has since become a subject of discussion as Georgia attempted to contain the disease. Now it seems the state will take a dangerous risk.

Trump’s comments contradict his earlier position on reopening the economy. He’s been saying for weeks that getting people back to work is a top priority and creating confusion and controversy as health experts warn anti-virus measures cannot be lifted yet.
