Trump Says He’s Stop All Immigration to the U.S. Due to Coronavirus

President Donald Trump has said he’ll suspend all immigration into the United States due to the Covid-19 global pandemic. The President has caused something of a panic after tweeting about his apparent decision on Monday night.

“In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!” he tweeted after 10pm.

Trump provided no details about how this order might be enforced or when it might take effect. There are now fears of panic at airports as immigrants try to get into the country before Trump’s executive order comes into place. His lack of detail won’t help.

The President was quickly accused of xenophobia and overreaction. His 2016 campaign was built upon racist, fear-mongering attacks on immigrants and shutting down all immigration seems like the fulfillment of his ultimate agenda.

Trump’s decision, though it may have been rash, will be seen by many as exploiting the Coronavirus crisis and as a means to distract from his administration’s failings throughout the the outbreak in the U.S.
