Trump Wanted His Own White House Radio Show But Worried About Competing With Rush Limbaugh

President Donald Trump reportedly stormed into the White House Situation Room eager to share an idea he had had: that he should have his own personal White House radio show. A new report from the New York Times claims Trump nixed the idea because he’d have to compete with conservative favorite Rush Limbaugh.

Trump shared his suggestion on a Saturday in March – after the Coronavirus outbreak had already begun. He apparently wanted a phone in show with no screening of callers. People would be able to ask Trump questions about Coronavirus directly.

“But that Saturday, almost as suddenly as he proposed it, the president outlined one reason he would not be moving forward with it: He did not want to compete with Rush Limbaugh,” the NYT reports.

Trump reportedly stressed that he would have proceeded with the idea were it not for Limbaugh, who is very popular among Trump supporters and is a vocal supporter of the President himself. Trump’s show would take place two hours a day every day.

“No one in the room was sure how to respond, two of the officials said. Someone suggested hosting the show in the mornings or on weekends, to steer clear of the conservative radio host’s schedule,” the newspaper goes on.

This was not the first time Trump had discussed a radio show with officials at the White House, the story says.

“But if some in the room were unsure whether the president’s proposal was a joke, they knew his deference to Mr. Limbaugh was anything but.”
